The countdown for Volterragusto has started, the most expected gourmet parade in Tuscany will
be held in Volterra in the 5 weekends from October the 10th till
November the 8th, 2009. The Kermesse, which is now at its 5th edition,
will offer a traditional program full of events related to the local food
together with shows and attractions that will make a visit to the Etruscan city
more pleasant.
Cheese, wine, chocolate and truffles will be the stars of the
theme weekends that will be based in piazza XX Settembre (open every Saturday
from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 10
a.m. to 8 p.m.). But the great new thing of this year will
be the additional Spring session that will follow the Autumn session . The olive
oil feast (Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st, March 2010) and
the review of the “marzuolo” truffle (Saturday 27th and
Sunday 28 th, March 2010) will bring life into Volterra streets. In a
traditional Fall frame the weekend (October 10th and 11th)
that will give the start to the Kermesse will be devoted to “Filiera
Corta” (a regional net for the evaluation of the local land products).
Here is the title of this review: “Filo filo boccon boccone” -
a nice gourmet walk in the town discovering the Volterra Filiera corta”.
On Saturday, October 17th and Sunday 18th lights on cheeses with all the local
dairymen introducing their products. Do not miss the traditional
Volterra cheese race, an amazing challenge among the town districts
which will take place in Via Franceschini!
On Saturday, October 24th and Sunday 25th the eagerly
awaited event for the finest palates!: “The San Miniato hills white
truffles show and market”(again on Saturday, October 31st and Sunday, November
the 1st ). During these two weekends the precious tuberous linked to
Volterra will be tasted and duly narrated.
Among the events the nice “truffle hunting” and the literary
prize “Jarro” by which a show world celebrity will be awarded
for its activity devoted to promote the gourmet culture.
The first session of Volterragusto will be closed by the fabulous Chocolate
feast ( Saturday, November 7th and Sunday 8th ); two days
dedicated to the chocolate and its various expressions, with
shows and chocolate workshops that will explain the manufacture of this
delicacy!. During the same weekend there will also be the 5th edition of the Beppino
Raspi prize, which will award the local farm that has been more
succesfull in the production and evaluation of a typical land product.
Culture and Gourmet will then continue their path with two initiatives:
“GUSTO VOLTERRA, AUTUMN IMAGES”: a theme photographic contest
for pro and non pro, in cooperation with the photographic group GIAN; the photo
shots will be voted by a technical jury and the prizes will be consigned during

“VOLTERRA DI GUSTO…E DI CULTURA” (Taste
and culture in Volterra): all the people who will visit the stands in Piazza XX
Settembre will receive a price reduction on the tickets for some city museum and
for the “Pieter de Witte” show (open till November the 8th )
